Ashley Harkleroad rise to fame has followed closely in the ongoing demise of rival Blonde bombshell Anna Kournikova.When the lacklustre Kournikova started struggled to win a match, tournament directors, and the media, needed a new attraction capable of sticking around long enough to fill their pages with teasing photographs.In almost idyllic timing - Harkleroad made an appearance at the 2001 US Open, and the young American certainly caught someone’s eye.With Kournikova nowhere to be found, she hit the headlines and her picture appeared in plenty of publications. Dressing provocatively and claiming her outfits ‘got the guys shouting for her’ – the media believed they had found their American Kournikova.Unfortunately her results were pretty similar, losing in the first round of that open, and netting an identical result a year later. But she’s still very young so we don't hold that against her - yet.
