Mariana Diaz-Oliva
Coached by Gaston Mazieres; does off-court training with Juan Pablo Sangalli. A baseline player who prefers red clay; strongest shot is the forehand. Mother, Cristina, is a kindergarten director; father, Raul, is an engineer; has an older sister, Paula, a younger sister, Julieta, and a younger brother, Diego. Graduated from high school in 1994. Admires Steffi Graf for overcoming obstacles and remaining No. 1 for so long. Self-described as impulsive, hard-working, responsible, shy, intelligent and disciplined. Changes her lucky charms every week. Most memorable experience was reaching the final for the first time on the tour at 2001 Bol after coming back from 60 2-0 down to upset world No. 15 Kim Clijsters in SF. Other sports interest is field hockey. Enjoys doing crossword puzzles, reading and baking desserts. Favorite movie is My Life; favorite actor is Robin Williams; favorite book is The Greatest Miracle.
